2018 Hallowell Water Street Reconstruction Project Has a Name and a Face

Down With the Crown” is now the official name of the upcoming Hallowell Water Street Reconstruction Project slated to begin in April, 2018. The project also has a face thanks to local historian Sumner (Sam) Webber who sketched out his original concept for the logo which was then given to local artist Chris Cart who donated his time and talents to create the finished design. Webber credits his wife Cathy with the naming of the project.

The project name and logo will be unveiled at Old Hallowell Day on Saturday, July 15. “Down With The Crown” committee members will host an information booth during OHD from 9am until 2pm in the parking area adjacent to Berry & Berry Florists on Central Street. Also on display at the booth will be a sample of the sidewalk bricks that will be decorated by another local artist and then sold to raise funds for the many events and activities planned for the community throughout the project including a blow-out kick-off event and a closing dedication at the end of construction.

The name and logo were selected by members of the Hallowell Board of Trade, members of the community and the Hallowell Arts and Cultural Committee who have been meeting since last year to develop a strategy for supporting Hallowell businesses and residents throughout the construction phase of the project. The logo was designed to be fun and engaging and will appear on literature, web sites, social media and in and around town starting this weekend. The planning committee is deeply grateful to both Sam and Cathy Webber and Chris Cart for their creative work in putting a name and face to this project.

Along with information about the actual schedule for construction work, visitors to the booth on Saturday will be able to view renderings of the completed project and learn about the different volunteer committees working behind the scenes to create some positive buzz and excitement about the “Down With the Crown” project and to do what Hallowell does best-come together for the good of the community. Visitors to the booth may also sign up to volunteer on one of the committees. For more information contact the Down With The Crown planning committee at: downwiththecrown2018@gmail.com.
