Join us on Saturday, July 28 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. as the City of Hallowell marks the halfway point in the Water Street reconstruction project with a weekend event including a community-wide Paint the Street Party sponsored by the Down With The Crown Committee and the unveiling of the “Murals On The Fence” Art Exhibit sponsored by the Hallowell Arts and Cultural Committee!
Festivities begin with live music and an invitation to paint the remaining portion of the original Water Street before it is torn up in preparation for the second phase of construction. Restaurants and downtown eateries will be offering a select menu item at half-off to reflect the “Halfway Theme”. We will provide an updated list of businesses who are offering special deals as the event draws near.
Painting will take place on Water Street from the corner at Hallowell Clay Works to the McAllister Real Estate office.
Brushes and paint will be provided…the only thing you need to bring is your creativity so that we can make the concrete a canvas!
Also on Saturday, we will unveil the hand-painted murals which have been created by members of the community since April. There are now almost 100, and these beautiful pieces of art will all be displayed together for the first time in an exhibit called “Murals On The Fence” where they will hang along the green construction fences erected on the West side of Water Street. Murals have been created by local artists, community members, families, schools, organizations, and even civic leaders and organizations! Murals on the Fence will be on view from July 28 into mid September as construction allows.
Blank canvases and paint will be available for Paint The Street participants and onlookers that wish to create new murals to be added to those already hanging.
Join us for an afternoon of art and creativity on the 28th!
